Indians abroad: NRI services and Indian life in 20 countries
About 37 million people of Indian descent live outside India. Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) are Indian citizens living abroad; Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) are people of Indian descent who are citizens of another country. These are the 20 countries with the most overseas Indians, counting both, from the Ministry of External Affairs (as of January 2026). Each has a page of NRI services, with the Indian embassy and consulates there, and a page of Indian food, festivals and entertainment.
