Indian life in Myanmar: food, festivals and entertainment
Myanmar is home to 2,000,000 overseas Indians. Here is where to find Indian food, festivals and entertainment there. For the Indian embassy and NRI services, see NRI services in Myanmar.
Indian food
Myanmar's Indian community goes back to the 19th century. Downtown Yangon's Indian quarter, around Anawrahta Road, has Indian restaurants, tea shops and Hindu temples, and Indian dishes such as biryani (danbauk), samosas and chapatis are part of everyday food across the country.
Festivals and culture
Diwali, Thaipusam and other Hindu festivals are celebrated at the temples of Yangon and Mandalay. India's cultural centre in Yangon, run by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, holds classes and performances; see ICCR's list of Indian cultural centres.
