About Haryana

Haryana is said to mean "Home of Hari," a name of the god Vishnu. The state has a proud history dating to the Vedic age. It was home to the legendary Bharata dynasty. The battle between the Kauravas and the Pandavas, described in the Mahabharata, is believed to have been fought on the site of the modern Kurukshetra. Here Lord Krishna is said to have delivered to the warrior Arjuna the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, venerated by Hindus as the highest code of ethics. The state of Haryana is bounded by Uttar Pradesh in the east, Punjab in the west, Himachal Pradesh in the north and Rajasthan in the south.  It spans an area of about 44,212 Km2 and the population is over 21,082,000. The state capital is Chandigarh. The River Yamuna flows in the east and the river Ghaggar flows in the west.
