Bhandara is also known as the ‘District of Lakes’. This important district located in Maharashtra, and it is the administrative district. This place is also known as the `Brass City` as it has the largest concentration of brass metal production units in India. Another thing, which Bhandara is famous for, is its high quality rice production. The total area of the district is about 3850 square kilometers.

Bhandara also has a high literacy rate of 80% and the district has one of the highest female literacy rates which is around 75%.

The Bhandara district depends mainly on the paddy crop. To support this trade it has an elaborate chain of rice mills and rice processing plants. Tumsar is one of the most important rice markets in the region. Apart from this the district also has several industries, such as engineering workshop, metal-processing units. The district is rich natural resources like forest. It has one of the largest teak forests in India. Some of the minerals found are gold, shale, malachite, iron, and sandstone.

More than half of the area of the Bhandara is covered by jungle. These forests are full with medicinal herbs, fruit and nuts, honey, edible fruits, lac, and the mahuci blossoms. Some of the forest areas are cleared for agricultural purposes. Some of the major crops grown here are wheat, food-grains, rice, linseed, millet, pulse, and sugarcane. These forests are rich in timber wood. It has a vast population of teak wood, and some of the best varieties. These forests also contain animals like panthers, tigers, deer, and wild boars.
