Legislative Affairs Department

To ensure co-ordination between the Secretariat and the Legislature, there is a small section of the Secretariat called the Legislative Affairs department, with a staff of about 30 persons. Their work includes: - 

(a) Preparation of the drafts for Governor's speeches 

(b) Advising government about legislative priorities 

(c) Assisting the Minister for Legislative Affairs in the work of the Business Advisory Committee 

(d) Making proposals for summoning the Legislature or proroguing it 

(e) Distributing copies of the Orders of the Day 

(f) Dealing with questions about the salaries and allowances of members of the Legislature (determined by a special Act) 

(g) Providing facilities to the members of the Parliament or Parliamentary Committees visiting the state 

(h) Keeping watch on the assurances given by Ministers on the floors of the two houses and watching the fulfillment of these assurances.
