Nellore

Nellore is the capital city of Potti Srimamulu Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh. It has a lot of significance due to its location since it lies between Chennai and Vijaywada. Nellore is well known for its agricultural produce and for temples. The Penna River flows in the area. Nellore is heavily populated and most of the population is involved in agriculture.

Nellore was previously referred to as Vikrama Simhapuri. Nellore was under the reign of Vikramsimha Mahavir Manumasiddhi Maharaj. Simhapuri served as the capital at that time. The city had flourished great deal in every field during the reign of the king. Nellore was also influenced by Asoka in the third century BC. During the 6th century BC it was ruled by the Pallava dynasty rulers. During the rule of the British regime the city underwent several changes

It has always been famous for rice plantation. There are several places in Nellore which have a great deal of significance in the past. Among the points of interest there are Ranganayakula temple situated on the bank of the Penna River, Krishnapatnam port, the Udaygiri fortress, Penchala kona, Venkatagiri fort, Nelapattu, Narasimha Konda, Mypadu beach and Sriharikota- the famous rocket launching center.  Nellore has become one of the major tourist destinations in the past years.  The influences of the different dynasties on the city could be traced through its art and architecture.
