Medak is a small district located in the region of Telangana in Andhra Pradesh. It is situated at a distance of just about a distance of 100 kilometers from the metropolitan city of Hyderabad.

Medak was originally called Siddapur. Subsequently it came to be known as Siddapur and was also called Gulshanabad at one point of time. The city flourished at the time of the rule of the Kakatiya dynasty. One of the highlights of the city of Medak is a citadel that was build during the reign of the Kakatiya rulers. Moreover, excavations at a place called Kondapur, located at a distance of 60 km from the city of Medak have unearthed the remnants of the Satavahana dynasty.

The Pocharam Forest & Wildlife Sanctuary, situated in close proximity to the city of Medak, serves as a natural habitat for a number of animals like Nilgai, Forest Cat, Jackal, four horned antelope, Leopard, Chital, Wild Dog and Chinkara. It also houses diverse varieties of fauna. It occupies an area of 9.12 square kilometers.

The Medak fort is one of the major attractions of the city.  It was constructed during the 12th century and is a manifestation of the architectural mastery of the Kakatiyan dynasty.
