Kurnool Kurnool, situated on the banks of the
Tungabhadra River in Andhra Pradesh. The town is the present capital
of the Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh and the former capital of
Andhra State.
Kurnool, during the time of the Vijaynagar
Empire, gained prominence and rose to become a major stronghold. The
Konda Reddy Buruju, a grand fort citadel, still stands in the centre
of town as a testimony to its strength
Present day Kurnool is a town which attracts
tourists visiting the grand citadel. Further, it has the very first
temple dedicated to “Sri Shirdi Sai Baba” on the banks of the
Tungabhadra. It is an industrial town with the Rayalaseema Paper
mill, the largest in Asia. It is also home to numerous educational,
banking and insurance institutions.
