Cuddapah is located in the south central part of Andhra Pradesh. The name of the city has been derived from the Telugu word ‘Gadapa’ which means the entrance and thus tied to the Venkateshwara temple as a gateway from the north. The city is surrounded by the beautiful Nallamala and Palakona hills. The Penna River runs 8 kilometers south of the city.

The city is surrounded with places of mythological interest like Vontimitta which is 20 kilometers from Cuddapa. This is one of the most popular tourist destinations near Cuddapa. This place also has significance in terms of mythological reference. It is believed that Shri Ramchandra of Ramayana prepared the Anjaneya Swami Vigraham with stones that were portions of this hill range.

The city has an illustrious history since it was part of the Chola and the Kakatiya Empire during the 11th through the 14th century. The city was also a part of the Vijayanagara kingdom. There are several temples in the city that form the tourist site. You will also Dargahs in the city and towers also from an interesting watch. Two very popular shrines in the region are Astahana of Maghdooluilahi and Shahmiria and there are a large number of churches in the region as well.

Another tourist site in the region is the imposing fort of Gurramkonda. The fort is situated on a 500 feet high hill. Some more visiting spots in the city are Alladu Palle, which is the temple of Sri Veera Bhadra Swamy situated in Chapadu Mandal, Ankalamma Gudur, a place where the Ankalamma Swamy temple is located.

Apart from these there are Joukupalli, Jyothi, Kadapotsava, Ontimitta, Pushpagiri, St. Mary’s Cathedral in Mariapuram, Tallapaka, Vempalli Gandi and Karunagiri.
