Siuri: History, Geography, Tourism, Map

Located at a distance of 220 km from Kolkata, Siuri is well connected by rail and road. The Sainthia station, 19 km from Siuri, of the Andul-Sainthia line served by Eastern Railway is the nearest railhead. It takes about 3 hours by road; renting a car is a good option for visiting this area.

The most famous tourist attraction of Siuri is the ancient Damodar Temple. It is believed to have been built almost 200 years earlier. The temple is 10.7 m high and is adorned with terracotta designs. Dedicated to the Hindu deities, Radha and Krishna, the temple has a wall plate displaying their emblems.

An intriguing attraction is the ancient neem tree in the Bauri Para of Siuri. Steeped in folklore, this tree is known to unravel the mysteries of life. The tree is popular among visitors as one that tells of the past, present and future. This characteristic makes the tree a popular attraction of Siuri.

Siuri also serves as a hub for touring the adjoining places of interest. In the east of the town is the Bakreshwar Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. A famous Shakti Peetha, pilgrimage spot dedicated to Mother Goddess, Tarapith, is also located in close proximity to Siuri.

The popular sweetmeat, morabba, is the local specialty of Siuri.
