Barasat: History, Geography, Tourism, Map Barasat, a small city located at a close proximity to Kolkata, serves as the headquarters of the district of North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. The city is easily accessible via a number of modes of transportation. The Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, commonly known as the Dumdum Airport, is the nearest airport to Barasat. Barasat is known for historical places like the bungalow of Lord Hastings, the first Nilkuthi (indigo planter’s bungalow), the site where Maharaja Nandakumar was hanged, and so on.
