About Uttar PradeshBeing referred to as the "Cow Belt" or "Hindi Belt", Uttar Pradesh has been the most dominant state in Indian Politics with the credit of contributing over half of India's prime ministers. It is the fifth largest State in India by area, spanning 238566 kmē and is the most populous state with population over 166,052,859. Blessed by the Ganges and the Yamuna, the two revered rivers of Indian mythology, it is one of the ancient cradles of Indian culture. The state is bound by Bihar in the east, Madhya Pradesh in the south, Rajasthan, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana in the west and Nepal together with Uttaranchal, bifurcated from UP in 2000, in the north. The capital is Lucknow and the state language is Hindi. With an endless array of attractions of its glorious monuments, excellent health resorts, exciting mountain peaks, religious ancient temples, enchanting vihars, rich flora and fauna, fascinating rivers and captivating valleys, Uttar Pradesh is a great and proud state of India. |
