Gadchiroli is located around 180 km from the city of Nagpur and around 80 km from Chandrapur. The district is divided into three different zones based on the type of soil present there. The western zone of the Gadchiroli has a fertile soil, it is located on the banks of river Vainganga. The loamy soil contains iron ore, similar to the soil of the riverbed of river Godavari. On the southern side of Gadchiroli, the soil is black in nature and fertile. Different types of agricultural products are grown here. The eastern part has a loamy and sandy soil which is covered by dense forest.

Gadchiroli is well connected with roads with the rest of the state. It takes about 2 hours to reach the place from Chandrapur and about 4 hours from Nagpur by road. The nearest railway station is located at Wadsa.

Several hill ranges span across the region of Gadchiroli, such as Bhamragad, Aheri, and Surajgad. These hills provide as the catchment area for valleys formed by the tributaries of rivers Pranhita, Vainganga, Indravati, and Godavari. This place experiences the extreme weather conditions. The summers often has temperature soaring to a highest of 47 degree centigrade and a low of 9 degree centigrade in the winters.

Gadchiroli is a popular tourist destination. The artistic sculptures of Markanda from the ancient times bring in a fair amount of tourist to this place. Vast regions of Gadchiroli are covered by forests. The main forest areas in Gadchiroli are Dhanora, Etapalli, Korchi, Kurkheda, Bhamraged, Aheri, and Sironcha. These forests are rich in timber wood such as Tendoo, Ain, Dhavada, Teak, and Anjan. These forests also have a plethora of flora and fauna. Markandeshwar and Chaprala sanctuary are the other major tourist attractions.
