It spans an area of about 443,446 KM2 and the population is over 66,181,000. The state of Madhya Pradesh came into existence on November 1, 1956. The state capital is Bhopal. The main river systems are the Chambal, Betwa, Sindh, Narmada, Tapti, Mahanadi and Indravati. Not only being the land of world famous Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh is also a land of beauty with spectacular mountain ranges, meandering rivers and miles and miles of dense forests offering a unique and exciting panorama of wildlife in sylvan surroundings. |
