VIDHAN PARISHAD

The Vidhan Parishad : (Legislative Council) 

The Upper House consists of 78 members. The composition of the House is as follows: 

(i) 22 members elected by local authority; 

(ii) Seven elected by graduates of at least three years standing; 

(iii) 7 elected by teachers in secondary schools; 

(iv) 30 elected by Maharashtra legislative Assembly; the remaining 12 nominated by the Governor from amongst persons with special knowledge or practical experience in literature, art, science, social service, etc. 

It is a perpetual house and not subject to dissolution. The term of office of a member is six years; but one third of its members retire every two years.
