I
feel very strongly about the status of women in India. They
show great strength of character here. But, the society
dictates their choices and. They have been the underdogs and
don't get their due. They are quite dynamic but are treated
quite badly. That is really sad cos women work more than men
here and they are still treated with disrespect. Women must
understand their own power and realize their potential. I
have been lucky enough to be independent at an early age and
I am used to it now. But, lots of women are still quite
dependent on the men in their lives. But, women must realize
that they ought to financially independent.
COMMUNALISM
I
am not originally from India. And it is quite
disconcerting to find a large country like ours
divided on the basis of religions. I am a hippie at
heart and believe in a bohemian culture. Everyone
should be treated well, everyone should live as one.
That's not happening here. Religion appears to
dictate a lot of things around here. That hinders
the country's progress and stops it from a certain
dynamic culture that it could follow. This
communalist culture can be manipulative and can be
used for personal gains. There appears to be a
political motive behind this communalism. That is
very dangerous. We must wake to the fact that there
are people using innocent people as pawns in their
political struggles.
FUTURE
OF READING
I
am sad that people don't appear to be
reading books as much as they used to. I
think reading is one of the best activities
one can indulge in. I am a voracious reader
and it has made me a well-rounded
personality. It shapes one's life in a way
one can only imagine. There is a book for
every occasion. I appreciate books as gifts
and love to gift books myself. Books can
make for good friends. I think more kids
should be exposed to reading right from
childhood.
