Thane is one of the popular towns in the state of Maharashtra. It is the headquarters of the district of Thane.  This industrial town is located on the western banks of famous Thane creek. The town is approximately 147 square kilometres in area.

Thane attracts tourists from all over the world because of its natural beauty and the Thane creek. This district is full of lakes. There are around thirty lakes in Thane district. Some of the most visited lakes in the district include: 

•       Talao Pali

•       Masunda Lake

•       Upavan Lake

Among these three lakes the most beautiful is the Masunda Lake. There are boating services available on these lakes. The Upavan lake is situated on the foot of the Yeoor hills.

Thane also serves as an outlying suburb of Mumbai. A significant portion of the population of Thane moved in the region after the freedom of India and provide a unique cultural blend to the area.
