Akola
Akola is the headquarter of
Akola district in Maharashtra. It lies between the city of Mumbai
and Nagpur. Akola is one of the important district towns of
Maharashtra.
There are many places in and
around Akola which the tourists can find interesting.
- Fort: Fort of Akola is said
to have been built by Asad Khan in 1697 when India was ruled by the
Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. The town testifies the old time with the
remains and relics of this fort. It is situated in the old town on
the bank of River Morna. In 1957, municipality had repaired the
fort. Now a park has been laid out and has been named Azad Fort. A
monument has been erected to commemorate the sacrifice of martyrs in
the war for independence. Hawakhana, an integral part of this fort
is a must-visit for every tourist.
- Rajeshwar Mandir- This is
the oldest temple of this town. It is a shrine of Lord Shiva. The
structure of this temple stands on forty pillars and two pilasters.
- Clock Tower- This is a very
recent addition in the local attractions of Akola, constructed in
Rani Jhansi Marg.
